Knight Club at Norwich Castle
Please note: Knight Club is currently paused.
Knight Club is bringing the past to life! We're offering active, engaging opportunities designed to inspire people of all ages to find out more about medieval history. Learn to sword-fight, discover the meaning behind medieval heraldry, create your own fantastic feasts, marvel at medieval manners and much more!
Knight Club uses specially designed equipment to safely teach competitive medieval sword-fighting to all ages and abilities. It's not just about fighting, though - there's also a range of 12 medieval-themed cross-curricular activities including: using measurement and maths to design siege equipment; navigating the night sky using ingenious medieval techniques; and discovering heritage crafts like weaving, painting, and blacksmithing.
There are two ways to take part in Knight Club - book a session or join Knight Club.
Book a session
For those who want to try sword fighting for the first time or want to hold Knight Club at an event, booking a session is easy. Just contact us on norwichcastle.bookings@norfolk.gov.uk and we'll take it from there.
When you book a session you get:
- An opportunity for 30 people to try sword-fighting per hour (multiple hours can be booked)
- Training from a certified instructor on how to move, fight, and defend with a sword and shield
- 1 v 1 duels
- All vs All mass melee
- Epic team battles
- A choice from a selection of supporting activities
Join Knight Club
Any groups able to regularly involve at least 15 people have the option of joining Knight Club. Norwich Castle will help your group get started by providing equipment, training, and activity resources so you'll be able to confidently lead and grow your own Knight Club.
There are great benefits to starting your own group including:
- Training for group leaders
- Support for starting your group from experienced staff
- Specially designed swords, shields, helmets, and other equipment to allow your sessions to run safely
- Sword-fighting resources and historical references
- Access to a 12-month series of quests and challenges which explore a range of subjects
- The chance to take part in competitions, challenges, and tournaments against other Knight Club groups
- The chance to attend a yearly Grand Tournament with all the other groups to celebrate successes, receive awards, and enjoy a medieval feast!
