Essential information
Maximum group size 60, £5 per pupil, 10am until 2pm, minimum fee £200
The event
Join in the preparations for a medieval Christmas as we travel back to the year 1121. Meet costumed characters and celebrate the festive season - medieval-style! A perfect historical end-of-term celebration and learning opportunity.
There are six activities, each led by a costumed character:
- Meet King Henry I and use your questioning skills to find out what the king expects at Christmastime.
- Meet a medieval minstrel and master a medieval dance.
- Meet a local craftsperson and design your own stained-glass window to take back to school.
- The Castle needs protecting, even at Christmas. Find out more when you meet the master- or mistress-of-arms.
- Enjoy a winter's tale with our very own court storyteller
- Help our kitchen servants to make some medieval air freshener using herbs.
Aims and learning outcomes
- To inspire an interest in, and enjoyment of, finding out about the past.
- To make links between the past and the present.
- To develop art, DT, history, literacy and drama skills.
