The day consists of four activities led by museum staff:
- Learn about the work of an archaeologist and help sort some genuine Neolithic tools.
- With a costumed character from the Stone Age, find out about daily life 6000 years ago and learn how Neolithic people came to live in settled communities.
- Meet a Bronze Age craftsperson and look at advances in textiles during the Bronze Age before taking part in a textile-based craft activity.
- In the gallery, meet an Iron Age Celt and explore how life changed from the Neolithic to the Iron Age by looking at the different metals available 2000 years ago.
Learning outcomes
- Inspire pupils' curiosity about the past and equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.
- Raise awareness of how we find out about the past.
