The event
This event combines a focus on a significant individual from history with insights into the differences between life in Victorian times and life today.
Meet Florence Nightingale herself and find out how she improved hospitals, why she introduced and wore a sash in hospitals and why she is famous for carrying a lamp. Plus handle and discuss objects like the ones used by Florence Nightingale, and make your own lamp to take home.
Learning outcomes
- Learn and understand how Florence Nightingale's life has shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world.
- Understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity and difference, and significance, and use them to make connections and draw contrasts.
